For Further Reflection: 

1) Do you have settled assurance of your salvation, or do you find yourself still asking, "What do I still lack?" What's underneath that uncertainty? What religious "credentials" do you quietly lean on for assurance instead of Christ himself?

2) Jesus didn't ask everyone to sell everything, but because possessions were the rich, young ruler's particular idol, He made that particular demand. What's the "one thing" Jesus might name for you if he stood in front of you today that keeps from you finding your delight solely in Him?

3) What does Jesus' demand tell you about what's actually required to follow Christ, and where are you tempted to substitute something less? If salvation is "impossible with man, but possible with God," what changes about how you approach your own failures and shortcomings this week?
