For Further Discussion: 

1. What's our natural tendency when someone sins against us — to confront them directly, to talk about it with others first, or to avoid it altogether? Why?

2. Verse 15 says "if he listens to you, you have gained your brother." What does that phrase tell us about the goal of confrontation? How does that goal change the way we approach it?

3. Jesus promises His presence "where two or three are gathered" (v.20) right after describing church discipline. How does knowing Christ is present in these hard conversations change how we should approach them?

4. What makes forgiveness so hard to extend, even when we've received so much of it ourselves? Why do you think Jesus ties forgiving others so closely to how we've experienced God's forgiveness in Christ?

5. How do confrontation and forgiveness actually depend on each other? Can you truly forgive someone you've never honestly confronted, or truly confront someone you're not willing to forgive? 

6. Is there a relationship in your life right now that needs either an honest confrontation or for forgiveness to be extended? What's one step you could take this week?
