True Greatness

Matthew 18:1-14 

Who is the greatest in the kingdom? 

I. The Humble (v.2-4) 

II. The Hospitable (v.5) 

III. The Holy (v.6-9)

IV. The Hopeful (v.10-14) 

For Further Reflection: 

1) Jesus answers a status question by pointing to a child. What does "greatness" competition actually look like in your everyday life — at work, at home, online? Where do you catch yourself chasing it?

2) To welcome a child "in my name" is to welcome Jesus himself. Who are the low-status, easy-to-overlook people in your world right now? What is the next step in growing toward Christ-like hospitality? 

3) Jesus doesn't mince words about causing others to stumble and sin. Is there something in your life that might be a stumbling block to someone watching you? Is there some kind of avoidable temptation you need to set boundaries for personally? 

4) The parable of the lost sheep shows God pursues the one who wanders. Is there someone you've quietly written off — or a part of your own story where you need to hear that God still pursues? What is your next step towards them? 

5) Of the four measures of greatness in God's kingdom — humble, hospitable, holy, hopeful — which one costs you the most to actually live out right now, and why?
